Who can plumb the depths of the ancient turtle mind? This was a slowly dawning horror, as so much of nature, for all its beauty, often is. Great storytelling!
thank you Liz. I keep returning to nature as a theme. it’s so compelling because the motives are totally outside our grasp, even when we think we know a place.
Yes! The natural world’s impersonal “live or die” way of being, so divorced from our human concepts of morality, is compelling. It is frightening (and humbling) to be put in our place.
Birth and murder and death, death, death. Let's keep swimming. We only have an hour until we're back in the heat of our lives again. It's fine. Everything is fine.
Well, this was fascinating but now I’m wondering where fiction and fact part company…since I know most turtles are omnivores, I thought you had stumbled upon some moment of pack hunting behavior and the creatures would creepily feast at the end… instead, they just creepily disperse. Such a great telling, but I simply must know… did those turtles kill that bird for the fun of it, or because driven by some primitive reaction to a wounded creature in the water, attack… or was it just an amazing moment in storytelling!? 🧐🫶🏼
This has the same uneasiness as "Jaws" but with turtles. Love the descriptions in this, so captivating and brimming with uncertainty.
wow the tiny Jaws! thank you!

Floored by this! Excellent story, EJ!
thank you. 🙏
Yesssssssss! turtle! such a fun read.
Nature's gotta nature, even if its nature is supernatural in nature
But honestly, apartment buildings, parks? Where are you going to leave safe for me to go?
Have you ever read Dr. Seuss’s Yertle the Turtle? Because this is like that but better and with a much needed dose of murder.

thanks for this comment! I have my suspicions about what they were doing but since you gave the option i’m going to say it was just great storytelling
It truly was…looking forward to your next posts!
Wow you are deeply witch-ed!
When is a walk in the park not a walk in the park? When it gets the EJ treatment! 🫣
Just when you thought everything had been done before, here comes a turtle horde. 🐦🐢💀❤️
